About Brock

“My brain damage is my secret weapon. This training allows me to survive and thrive. If it works for me, imagine how it works for someone with a fully-functioning brain.”

Brock Barnes
The Past

Brock Barnes grew up working-class poor in rural, small-town Texas. Illiterate until age 10 and struggling with undiagnosed ADHD, education didn’t come easily. “I knew my only chance to get out was to earn a basketball scholarship,” he says. So he worked hard to make it happen.

He earned a scholarship to play for Texas Tech University. He earned two undergraduate degrees: one in Finance and one in Personal Financial Planning.

Brock married his high school sweetheart. They had three kids. He founded a successful wealth management business.

Then the old Brock died.

The Brain Injury

On September 8th, 2016, Brock experienced a traumatic brain injury when he dropped at 53-pound kettlebell on his head. It sent him into what he calls “the concussive cave of hell.” For two agonizing years he couldn’t tolerate sound, light, movement or basic conversations. He struggled with making basic decisions. “The pain was so intense I spent most days in isolation, with my head under a pillow,” he says.

Brock disappeared from the world. His wife lost her husband. His kids lost their dad. His family and friends didn’t understand because Brock literally couldn’t explain what was happening. Normal life was over.

The Comeback

Finally, on December 10th, 2018, something happened deep inside Brock. He committed to clawing his way out of the concussive cave of hell—regardless of how painful it would be. At one vivid moment, he realized things couldn’t get more painful, so he might as well fight through the pain to find a way to build a new life. In highsight, that day was the first day of his new life.

It started with physical activity to regain spatial awareness that was lost from the injury. Then, on April 18th, 2019, he reached out to a retired Navy SEAL named Thom Shea. “For the next year, he trained and mentored me,” Brock says. “His mentorship allowed me to grow in all areas of life, I started building a new Brock.”

He realized the tools that helped him get out of the cave could help others achieve incredible growth and performance. By 2020, Thom and Brock began training groups of people together. They worked together for the next two years.

The Present

The symptoms have decreased but Brock still suffers daily. He doesn’t ever have a day off from his concussion, so he continues to use a proven framework and tools to grow performance in all areas of his own life. He then simply shares these tools with his clients.

He has restored his relationships. He has even regained his physical prowess and completed two 50K Spartan Ultras.

“My brain damage is my secret weapon,” he says. “This training allows me to survive and thrive. If it works for me, imagine how it works for someone with a fully functioning brain.”

He’s not joking. He now guarantees growth in performance for his clients, including:

  • Ryder Cup Competitor
  • Solheim Cup Competitor
  • Growth-minded leaders of all kinds, within all sizes of businesses and organizations

Brock Barnes has a gift and enjoys sharing that gift with leaders and competitors who want to do something special. If you are stuck in life, performance or business, Brock can relate. And then he can help you get unstuck and grow.

World-Class Golfers

The best golfers in the world must have someone to have authentic conversations about anything and everything.

My work with world-class golfers always begins with authentic conversations. That’s where growth becomes possible. I call this awareness. Once awareness occurs, things get really simple and we are able to identify and train the mental skills that will allow them to play better golf.

Growth-Minded Leaders

Growth-minded leaders typically go too fast and their work life has consumed them. So other areas of life have suffered.

My work with growth-minded leaders always begins with authentic conversations. That’s where growth becomes possible. I call this awareness. Once awareness occurs, things get really simple and we are able to identify and train the area of life that will allow them to play better life.

Contact Brock

Brock goes on 24-hour walks

When Brock dropped a kettlebell on his brain, it destroyed his spatial awareness. So, several times a year, Brock forces his brain to relearn spatial awareness by going on a 24-hour walk. It is painful, but it remains part of his commitment to building a new life. The process is exactly what it sounds like: He walks for 24 hours. No sleeping. Just walking.

During these walks he invites others to join him.

The purpose of this for Brock is:

  1. Learn spatial awareness through walking for 24 hours.
  2. Do something very uncomfortable and challenging.
  3. See what shows up. Something always shows up when you push limits.
